The Room of Wonders

The Room of Wonders at the Teatro Trianon Viviani in Naples is an innovative immersive space conceived by Artistic Director Marisa Laurito and designed by Bruno Garofalo.

It is the result of a unique project in the Italian and international landscape, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of Neapolitan Song through the major cultural heritage digitization programme, the Digital Ecosystem for Culture, planned and funded by the Campania Region and implemented by Scabec.

The title draws inspiration from the concept of the Wunderkammer, the “cabinet of curiosities” found in European courts and noble palaces between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, where extraordinary objects were collected. This twenty-first-century Room uses modern digital technologies to bring the wonders of Neapolitan Song to life in an emotional and engaging way.

Visitors are virtually transported to Naples of another era through a thirty-minute multisensory journey of sounds, colours, and moving images. The experience focuses on the period from the late nineteenth century to 1940, when the greatest number of musicians and poets contributed to this repertoire. Contemporary interpretations—faithful to the original scores and lyrics—are accompanied by period photographs and paintings, allowing audiences to fully immerse themselves in the melodies and atmospheres that shaped Neapolitan musical tradition.
