Villa Regina

Discovered in 1977, the complex, located in the municipality of Boscoreale, is a small farmhouse built in the Sillan period (1st century B.C.), centred around a wine cellar with 18 underground dolia for the storage of the must obtained from the grapes produced in the vineyard surrounding the villa, the layout of which has been reconstructed. In fact, the farm was equipped with a special room for pressing the grapes, as well as rooms for domestic activities, stables and storage.
Of the pars urbana, the only stately room was the triclinium, decorated with paintings in the 3rd style, while other living quarters were located on the upper floor, accessible by a staircase.
At the time of the eruption, the farmhouse must have been used only for agricultural work, and many of its rooms are still waiting to be restored after the earthquake of 62 AD.
Among the objects found are a small herm of the god Bacchus from the lararium of the portico, numerous table and kitchen utensils, agricultural implements and some oil lamps, including one dated to the 3rd or 4th century AD, which proves that the site was inhabited after the eruption of 79 AD.
