Museo
The museum was established in Sorrento in 1924 through the efforts of Alfredo and Pompeo Correale di Terranova, descendants of an ancient and distinguished family.
Upon their demise, the two brothers ensured that the priceless art collections, which had been in their family for centuries, were exhibited in a museum named after them.
The museum is currently located on the four floors of the 18th-century Villa Correale, surrounded by a magnificent garden that leads to a belvedere terrace with a view of the sea. The art collections, arranged in a manner that recreates the atmosphere of an aristocratic residence, offer a comprehensive and detailed testimony of the pictorial and decorative arts between the 15th and 19th centuries.
The museum is particularly renowned for its collections of still lifes and landscapes, as well as its holdings of 18th-century European porcelain. Of particular note are the valuable furnishings and rare Italian and European clocks from the 18th century.
The historical library houses a collection of Tasso editions and significant texts spanning the 16th to 19th centuries.
