Museo Ascione del Corallo

The museum charts the history of the Torre del Greco company from the 19th century to the modern era, showcasing original documents and significant creations.

The museum space is divided into two sections. The first is of an educational nature and presents a variety of coral branches, including those of different origins and types. It also displays ancient fishing systems, tools used to work them, numerous necklaces in various cuts and styles, and the markets to which they were and are destined. Additionally, the museum features a dedicated space showcasing cameo work. The exhibit presents a comprehensive overview of the art form, encompassing various aspects such as the use of shells, tools, and the different stages of processing, as well as the finished products.
The second section is dedicated to jewellery. It contains over 300 objects made of coral, cameos and lava stone, which provide evidence of a rare and refined production process spanning the early nineteenth century to the 1940s. The tour is accompanied by a plethora of printed and photographic documentation, which illustrate the company's activities and its numerous accolades for the quality and originality of its jewellery.
The Museo Ascione is situated on the second floor of the main façade of the Galleria Umberto I in Naples, occupying a significant portion of the space. This affords visitors an unparalleled view of some of the city's most exclusive and historically significant locations, including the San Carlo Theatre, whose stucco reliefs are situated mere feet from the museum's balconies, and the renowned marble sculptures by Carlo Nicoli, which grace the windows of the main halls.
