The Flower Festival of Paduli is an ancient religious event held on the occasion of Corpus Christi and consists of the creation of temporary works of art with carpets of flowers. It is a celebration that is probably connected to pre-existing propitiatory celebrations linked to the harvest of agricultural products.
The streets of the hamlet, which will then be trodden by the procession of the Blessed Sacrament, are covered with a multicolored carpet made up of thousands of flowers. These are magnificent mosaics that use flowers and petals instead of tiles to draw landscapes and views.
The event, which involves the entire population, is the expression of the refined craftsmanship, a heritage of this area, that the flower-artist citizens have developed over the years.
The flower-layers are organized into groups by the “zeletrici”, (those who work zealously for a specific purpose) women representing the various contradas (districts of the village), and their work goes on for months. The first phase of the work consists of conceiving and preparing the drawings that will be the subject of the representations; this is followed by the collection and/or purchase of the flowers and, finally, the separation of the petals from the corolla and their storage in a dry place. The second phase consists of the representation of the drawings on the pavement of the street and the painting of the background of the drawings with the dried petals.
Maestro Mimmo Paladino, a native of Paduli and a leading exponent of Transavantgarde, desired to pay homage to the 2021 edition of the Infiorata with the creation of the logo, as a sign of hope and a new beginning. In the same year, the twinning with the Infiorata of Casatori di San Valentino Torio, a municipality in the province of Salerno, became institutionalized.
