The Pellegrini Museum Complex is located in the picturesque setting of the popular "Pignasecca" district, a few steps from the Lower Decumano, also known as "Spaccanapoli", surrounded by places of great architectural, historical and artistic interest.
There are two churches, galleries and historic rooms: the 16th century Church of Santa Maria Mater Domini, which preserves the original design of the façade; the 18th century Church of the Holy Trinity, the work of Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Carlo Vanvitelli, magnificent for its unique plan of two octagons connected by rectangles. Also by Medrano are the terrasanta and the walnut-root choir and dome with pure gold motifs, designed by the architect Astarita.
From the Church of the Holy Trinity, through the Corridor of Tombstones, you can enter the rooms dedicated to the life of the Archconfraternity: the Mandate Hall, the Dressing Rooms, the Golden Rolls Hall, the Painting Gallery. Everywhere are precious works of art commissioned by the Archconfraternity or donated to it: paintings by Bernardino Campi, Carlo Maratta, Andrea Vaccaro, Francesco Fracanzano, Onofrio Palumbo and Didier Barra, Giacomo Farelli, Francesco De Mura, Giuseppe Bonito, Giacinto Diano; sculptures: In bronze, the expressive kneeling statue of Fabrizio Pignatelli by Michelangelo Naccherino; in marble, a Madonna with Child by Francesco Laurana; in stucco, the scenographic group of the Trinity by Angelo Viva; in wood, the group of polychrome statues of the Passion dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The extraordinary collection in the reliquary chapel, the precious furnishings and the perfectly preserved liturgical objects will take you back in time to a history that began at the end of the 16th century. The Historical Archives, declared an "archive of remarkable historical interest" in 1988, with more than 1,200 volumes and registers and a large collection of precious parchments, make documents of great interest available to researchers.
