Parco archeologico
The archaeological area represents the first nucleus of the Archaeological Park of ancient Avella and encloses the only monument of the Roman city that can be visited today.
It was built in the 1st century B.C. in the south-eastern sector of the ancient town, in an area previously occupied by residential structures from the Samnite period. Its representation appears on the side of a base of a limestone statue from the Antonine period, now preserved in the square in front of the Ducal Palace in the historic centre of Avella.
The monument, in opus reticulatum, was built close to the city walls and supported, in the south-western sector, by substructures intended to support the media and summa cavea, the latter not conserved.
