Antiquarium aequano silio italico

The museum is situated within the Vico Equense Town Hall and comprises a collection of over 200 archaeological artefacts dating from the 7th century BC to the Roman period.

The exhibition comprises black-figure and red-figure vases, Etruscan and Campanian bronzes, Corinthian and Ionian pottery, buccheri and black-framed active pottery, which are arranged in three rooms. The set of finds represents a significant selection of those made in the territory of the Sorrento Peninsula during the 1960s and 1970s.

The bronze pottery from the archaic necropolis of Vico Equense is of significant interest, displaying excellent workmanship. Among the notable pieces are cauldrons, situlae (buckets) and a 'pizzipapera', a distinctive duck-billed vase.

Bronzes are emblematic of Etruscan craftsmanship, which flourished during the archaic period (6th-5th century BC). They were commonly used in funerary practices, particularly in the context of banquets. However, they also served as symbols of the deceased's social status.
