Monumento
The Amphitheatre of Life** constituted a prominent feature within the suburban landscape of the ancient city. The building is evidence of two distinct construction phases. In the initial phase, the elevation of the structure was higher, with the arena situated at the same level as the surrounding countryside. In the subsequent phase, the height of the monument was reduced through the excavation of the arena below the original level. Additionally, an inner tribune was constructed for the most prominent citizens.
Subsequently, the monument was dismantled in stages, with the resulting stone materials being reused in the construction of nearby buildings. The amphitheatre can be dated to the first decades of the 1st century AD, based on the discovery of part of a dedicatory inscription.
L'Anfiteatro della Vita - The Amphitheatre of Life ** stood out in the suburban landscape of the ancient city. In the first phase, the building was raised and had a large arena at the same level as the surrounding landscape; in the second phase, the height of the monument was reduced by excavating below the level of the arena and an internal tribune was added for the most important citizens.
The monument was then gradually dismantled so that the stone could be reused in the construction of the nearby town.
The amphitheatre can be dated to the first decades of the 1st century AD thanks to the discovery of part of a dedicatory inscription.
